Andalusite
(Moh's scale 7.5)
is a strongly pleochroism (multi-colored) gemstone that shows flashes of
red, yellow, orange and green depending on the viewing angle. Some
people refer to
Andalusite
as Poor Man's Alexandrite. This isn't entirely correct since Alexandrite requires
a change in the type of lighting (i.e. from daylight to indoor
incandescent).
Andalusite
displays all three colors simultaneously. Yet,
Andalusite
is available at a fraction of the cost.
These
natural gemstones are from Minas Gerais, Brazil and have not been
treated in any manner. All of these gemstones are eye clean to very,
very slightly included. Andalusite of this quality is hard to find. |

Esmerelda – Emeralds (Moh's scale 7.5) – are the gemstone of legend and lure. The rich
green color of Emeralds immediately brings to mind the lush, tropical
jungles of Brazil. Yet, one mine was in the state of
Minas Gerais was discovered on a pig farm. The pigs were literally
rooting up the Emerald crystals and eating them!
